Derwen at Tan Y Wawr Reviews

Easy to book and a fabulous place to stay. It was our very own hobbit hole. The accommodation was spotless with lots of little special touches added to make our stay special. The hot tub and gas bbq were great features even on a cold evening. The WiFi was strong giving us access to all our tv favourites which we enjoyed whilst watching the daylight fade through the large curved doorway. The location is remote, so we stocked up on all of our essentials before settling in for the night.
Fantastic accommodation with beautiful views, the bench style seat needs to be more relaxing ,maybe small lshaped settee
Really great little retreat, super cosy and perfect for us as a couples getaway. Hot tub was fantastic, having it always ready to go is great we were in it every day! Kitchen is definitely more than enough to cook some dinners, though probably not a whole feast. So peaceful it was just what we needed. The electric radiators seemed to be playing up however, the one in the right bathroom looking from the front of the building didn't turn on or heat up at all, and the one on the left seemed to only turn on briefly to warm ish and then turn off, so weren't fully able to dry our towels. The left shower also only seemed to have hot water for 5 minutes before running out, so you had to shower quickly together or wait a little while for your turn, we never checked the right one but the kitchen tap always seemed to have hot water. Didn't negatively affect our stay as we were having such a good time, but would love those to be looked at for next time. Overall it was great and we definitely want to come back, we had such a lovely time!
Stephen
The accommodation was exactly as we expected, however, shortly after arriving we noticed that the WIFI wasnt working, we reported this to the owners but it remained inoperable for the duration of our stay. More annoying than this was the fact that neither of the electric radiators in the bathrooms worked, so there was no way of drying towels, robes or swimming costumes after using the hot tub. Again we reported this to the owners who said they had been fixed but they didnt work for the whole time we stayed. It is a shame as the property was beautiful in every other respect. I wouldnt book in Winter months.

We had a great 5 days away as a family. No issues with the property itself it was exactly as pictured and described. The location was stunning & it was blissful watching the landscape whether we were in the hot tub watching the sun go down or enjoying a morning coffee watching through the window door. Thoughtful gifts of milk, eggs, Welsh cakes and wine were much appreciated. We were comfortable enough of an evening playing games with our girls. As mentioned, some top tips shower quickly especially if you're a family, remember some flip flops to get from the tub back to the house & scout out some places to eat in advance as you're a little more rural we cooked 2 nights no problem with the facilities, though. We found a local walk via the Castle and along Montgomery Canal which was a gorgeous 4 miles with our girls & then we explored a little further west on the other days. Overall, loved it, would absolutely recommend!
The hobbit hole was everything I thought it would be. You have everything you need and more. Its so tranquil and the view is stunning! I would highly recommend
Great place, clean and welcoming.

We had the most amazing stay at TanY WawrDerwen. The setting and scenery is breathtaking and the hot tub is one of the many selling points. The place is so peaceful with views to die for and it was an amazing base for us to explore North Wales. The owners have literally thought of everything you might need from an ironing board and clothes horse, to plastic glasses for the hot tub and even a fan for those hot evenings. The welcome gifts of wine, milk, welsh cakes and eggs were so considerate and appreciated. We also stocked up at a supermarket about twenty mins drive away and we ate at the chip shop and Chinese based in Llanfair Caereinion which is a very short drive away. The only thing that will need looking into, is there was an odour in the place Noticeable when returning. We couldnt work out what it was or if it linked to pipes etc but it didnt bother us too much and definitely take away from our positive experience in this unique gem of a place.
Tracey
Our stay was amazing! Myself and my son had the best time being in such a beautiful location and away from the masses. We had a hot tub for the first time while we looked at the night sky with only the sounds of wildlife for company. Bliss. Would love to come back
Steven
Wonderful place, very tranquil and quite private. Everything we needed was provided and the scones, wine and milk were a lovely surprise, thank you.
William
An ideal location for either chilling or a base to explore! Views superb! Spa with Leah and the treatments were superb! The only criticism would be the comfort of the seating area, but would not put us off returning and would def recommend
Rebecca
Beautiful location and breathtaking views. The hobbit house was characterful but very modern. My only bug bear was the bathroom doors could not be locked so when one of my children opened the door, I was in view of the whole house. The hot tub was luxurious for all four of us to enjoy and it was lovely waking up to the sound of sheep in the morning.
Angharad
Great place! Looks exactly as shown. Brilliant to have the extras added from host, really exceptional. Very clean and tidy. Fantastic view, beautiful place to stay. Well worth having a spa treatment too as we really liked ours. Would return again.
Carlie
Was the perfect little getaway, loved every aspect of our stay.
A two night stay to take our autistic son somewhere quiet which it was, also something different, he loved the jacuzzi and seeing the sheep in the fields, absolute peace and quality Great communication with the owners. Shops not too far away and a great butchers. Excellent facilities for what we needed
Natalie
A gorgeous little 'Hobbit Hole Hideaway' nestled within fields. Fabulous sheep watching over us during our stay. Luxurious hot tub and awesome BBQ. Would be helpful if there was an outdoor drying maiden of some sort to hang swimwear and towels post hottub.
Antony
It is a lovely property in a lovely quiet and peaceful location, great place to get away from it all and just relax. It is not a huge property, but they have made the best of the space available.
Taylor
We had an amazing little getaway in the hobbit hut teletubbie house for my birthday Derwen The pictures of this property do not do it justice! Finished to a very modern and high standard, with a functional kitchen that has the basic equipment required. Upon our arrival we were welcomed with a bottle of wine, welsh cakes, milk, eggs and steaming hot tub. The hot tub was definitely the highlight of our trip after alot of walking and sightseeing. Book in advance for a massage with Leah at the spa. A very relaxing experience Yes, the bench sofa isn't the most comfortable but I think it encourages you to go out and enjoy the welsh countryside. The hot water in the shower doesnt last as long as we are use to so have shorter showers. A very peaceful and quiet location. You can see for miles and on a clear night we didn't get one maybe see the stars. We will definitely be returning but instead will book the neighbouring hut Onnen which is more suited for couples. In responce to a previous review no birds, no mice, a working fridge and no smoke or smell after cooking.
It was the most amazing and tranquil place we have ever stayed at. Such peace and quiet. The pod has everything anyone can ask for. It's magical and the views are just breathtaking. The little welcome presents of fresh eggs, Welsh cakes and wine were a lovely surprise. The hot tub and the optional Spa treatments by Leah are a very nice bonus Absolutely loved the place! Thanks to the lovely and welcoming hosts. I am hoping to come back again!
Caroline
Fantastic , peaceful relaxing accommodation. Immaculate loved all the extras that were left for us , it was great as we arrived late so could have a nice cuppa and a lovely Welsh cake . The hot tub was gorgeous to end the busy day relaxing in the tub. Thank you
Wow, Simply stunning. Beautiful location, fabulously quirky accommodation with some very nicely thoughtout details. Most welcoming and clean presentation. Lyn and I loved it!!!
It's a lovely relaxing spot with amazing views, we loved our time there, the only thing I dont agree with is the price for what your getting, it's way too expensive for what you actually get.
Danielle
Fabulous place. Exactly as described and really done to a high quality spec. The hot tub was hot on arrival and exactly what we needed when we arrived. The coordinates that were shared on another review we used to locate the cottage and they were spot on. Absolutely dont use the postcode, instructions or coordinates only! Our only slight feedback is the seating area which a few people have mentioned before. Great size and perfect for coffee but would suggest not so much for lounging. We went in February so evenings were about being indoors and cosy so noticed the seating then. Maybe a footstool swapping the gorgeous coffee table that could be pulled up against the sofa might help? Saying that Im sure in the summer with doors open, youd be far less concerned and outside anyway. Brilliant stay and our children now want to live in the fairy house. Thank you.
We came here as a group of two couples and had an amazing weekend! The accommodation was spotless, it was modern and absolutely beautiful. Every last detail had been thought about from tea and coffee and milk already being provided to ice cubes made up for us in the freezer! The surrounding area was breathtaking. Overall a fantastic stay and I have already recommended this to friends and family we will definitely return fantastic value for money.
We had a wonderful stay at Tan Y Wawr Leah and her family were very welcoming, the Welsh cakes and wine were a lovely surprise! The views from the hut were outstanding, we spent a day in Shrewsbury which is a 40 min drive from the property, on the second day we explored Powys Castle and on the last day we had a wonderful massage at the spa. We spent every night enjoying the hot tub! We would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful holiday!
Charlotte
Such a beautiful and peaceful location. Attention to detail was lovely. The hot tub was fab! Would definitely recommend
It was a beautiful, serene place and great concept. We didnt want to leave, hosts were very accommodating. Hoping to make it an annual trip.
Lauren
It was such a lovely place to stay, so cozy and the views were amazing! Great price for 4 people for 4 nights and has all the essentials you would need for a self catering holiday! The wine and Welsh cakes were amazing too! Thank you for letting us stay!
Philippa
Wonderful stay at an amazing, unique property! Fantastic views .Can't wait to return maybe in summer when we can sit out and admire the view!!
This was a beautiful cottage that looked like a Hobbit Hole. It was such a magical stay, the kids absolutely loved it. The place is perfect for nature lovers. One morning we even woke up to a rabbit just outside our little window. And, just to add that bit of extra special, theres a hot tub. Nothing like relaxing in bubbly warm water with those stunning views. I would 1010 recommend this. Ive already told all my friends and am planning when we can next come back.
Jennifer
Beautifully kept. Kitchen utensils made it very easy to find everything we needed. The sofa isnt the most comfortable but I understand the use restrictions. Loved finding the board games. USB charging points would be useful. The hot tub was not heated on our arrival so we could not use it on the first day which was very disappointing as this was a strong reason for our choice here.
Absolutely amazing honeymoon. The place looked beautiful, hot tub was a great edition. Bed was super comfy and had everything needed. Loved the little extras like wine, milk and Welsh cakes. Owners are so lovely, would definitely recommend.
Lynsey
Lovely accommodation. Done out to a very high standard, lovely workmanship within the accommodation. Everything theyre needed for a short stay. Hot tub was clean and hot every day which was a plus. Lovely and peaceful area and only 40 mins from Shrewsbury and powys castle which was beautiful. The only fault really was we wanted to book a hot stone massage but were told that we couldnt have one as there was not availability. When in the welcome pack it stated to contact and it would be accommodated. Apart from that lovely stay highly recommend
Absolutely beautiful! Hosts were so accommodating and always on hand to make sure our stay was exceptional. Spa facilities were excellent and really enhanced our stay as did the hot tub and the most amazing views. I would highly recommend and would not hesitate to return!
OMG... Amazing in every detail Will definitely be going again.
Jessica
Stunningly beautiful. The views are amazing, the interior so well thought out. Very private. The massage was also well worth it and would highly recommend. Can't wait to revisit.
Lovely property. Quirky, modern, and quiet! The perfect place for a relaxing escape.
Caroline
Wonderful hosts, beautiful, peaceful setting and great experience. We arrived a day late due to being unwell and were asked if we wanted to extend our stay at no additional cost. Wine, juice, milk and Welsh cakes on arrival. Comfortable beds and everything we needed at the accommodation to enjoy our stay. Treatments at the spa reasonably priced and great addition to our break. We would definitely recommend and would love to stay again
