Broughton Stables Reviews

Very well appointed accommodation in a lovely setting. Lots to do and see. Thoroughly recommended. Would consider revisit later in the year. Brian and Louise .
Katherine
We had a lovely stay at Broughton Stables. The owner was very helpful and friendly without being obtrusive. The accommodation was clean and tidy and suited us perfectly for our winter break. It was very warm and cosy and there was no need to have the heating on anything more than it was preset to. We enjoyed looking out at the sheep, watching the goats mooch about and giving the farm cats some cat treats. The downstairs could do with a lamp for evening time but otherwise it had everything needed for a short break. The location is excellent for exploring both Shropshire and Wales. As it is in a rural location and situated on a farm, it is down a long, bumpy drive so you do need a car without a low suspension and it is quite muddy getting in and out of the car so sturdy, tough shoes or boots are needed. Overall we had a great stay and would return without hesitation.
William
A quirky little stay in this barn. Almost impossible to avoid banging heads on beams but we could see them in the photos. Could be made more appealing with very little money spent. We found the lighting very harsh and actually had to buy a bedside lamp to read by. More subtle lighting would make the place more appealing. And the furnishings are cheap and unattractive. Very cosy until the north wind blew and the northerly bedroom became very chilly. Otherwise great!
Natalie
The property owner was lovely and welcoming and so were her dogs. Our dogs loved meeting them and were mesmerised by the sheep and goats. The property itself was perfect for us, great facilities and very clean. The garden was spacious and we were able to let our dogs run around gate closed, watching the sheep in the other fields without any concern. The surrounding landscape was beautiful and quiet. Just what we needed. Thank you to Kate, we would certainly recommend.
Synne Helene
Lovely stay and friendly host. Recommended.
Stuart
Lovely and peaceful and Ronnie our golden retriever absolutely love the garden
Perfect for all our needs, beautifully quiet and rural, but close enough to walk to Bishops Castle. Everything we needed inside and very comfortable beds. Friendly accessible owner. In a week didn't explore everything we'd like to have, so will return to this one and that's unusual.
The cottage is in a lovely setting, nice peaceful and quiet. The beds are comfortable. What really lets this property down is the ground floor. Its tired and needs a revamp. Most annoying aspect is having to walk to the next room to the fridge.
Michelle
We had a fabulous stay at Broughton Stables, Kate owner was very helpful. The barn is amazing and extremely spacious and comfortable. Very quiet and close to lovely countryside. Bishops Castle, Clun and Montgomery are well worth a visit. Such an historic region. We would book again for another short stay
Graham
Great location. Amazing accommodation and a lovely Hostess.
Sophia
Lovely, quiet and tranquil . The accommodation was clean and cosy. Very dog friendly and we had everything we needed . We booked to get away from all the fireworks back home with our reactive dog and we heard nothing during our stay. Plenty of walks nearby by car .
Michelle
Lovely cottage and location. We enjoyed our stay, visited nearby National Trust property's and did lots of walking. Would like to return to area again in the future and would recommend this home comfortable and clean.
Great place for a quiet break, the owner lives next door and is avaliable and friendly but not intrusive this is our second visit which says it all. we don't usually revisit anywhere
Stephanie
Really lovely and cosy barn conversion to stay in. Bed was very comfortable with lovely covers on. Just what was needed after a long day site seeing. Was very peaceful throughout our stay, wouldnt have known there was other people living on the same premise, other than the occasional farm animal making a noise it was quiet. Would have been nice to have a tv in the bedroom so we could watch tv in bed but i know this is not a make or break decision. Under the bed could do with a good hoover only found this out as dropped a headphone and came across random objects under the bed and a fair bit of dust. Cottage is 10 minutes away from local shop and really nice chinese takeaway. Wouldnt advise going in a low sitting car as driveway is quite unevenpot holey. Not too sure where the enclosed garden was as the garden next to the building is all open so would be unsure whether to take a dog with us if we stay again. Would have been nice for a book with some details about the area, local eateries etc but again, not a massive issue. Would definitely recommend to others as it is a beautiful place to stay
The only thing we would amend is the enclosed garden in the listing. The cottage is quirky and very well equipped, in beautiful surroundings. Kate the owner is lovely hospitable lady, who could not be more helpful. Would go back.
Judith
We are delighted to give our personal 5 rating to the Host and the property. A beautiful setting, quiet but not too remote, easily accessible on a maintained farm track, amidst farm animals, and a short drive to lovely towns, walking trails and the Welsh border. Within the cottage, a welllaid out, compact and very convenient high quality accommodation. The parking spot was clean and conveniently right outside the door we loved that. We put it near the top of all the rural places we have found on Sykes' website. The beds, bathrooms, bed linen and towels were all excellent quality, as were the white goods. The WiFi was very good, which is one of our important criteria. Struggled a bit with mastering the TV but that was soon sussed ! We hope to visit again.
Sally-ann
Very happy with our stay. A lovely quirky barn conversion in a beautiful setting. Some great sight seeing in the surrounding towns and villages
Daniel
Everything about Broughton stables was just lovely, fron the idyllic setting, comfort, cleanliness and facilities to our lovely host. The stables have been beautifully converted whilst retaining all the traditional features and quirks you'd expect. The property was spotless and beautifully finished. We met the small flock of lambs and goats in the adjoining fields who were more than happy with a little fuss, the resident cats who joined us on the lawn for coffee each morning. Our host even introduced us to her own dogs who were adorable and so friendly. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend Broughton stables for any animal loving travellers who are looking for a peaceful base to explore the small towns and villages in mid Wales.
Jackie
Although this property was advertised as having a secure garden, this was not the case, so someone had to go outside with the dog and wait until he was ready to return. Occasionally there were 2 large dogs from an adjacent property running around and leaving their mess on the grass. We were unable to get ITV a disaster with the European Cup being played!!
This is a lovely property from which to explore Shropshire. The weather wasnt the best but to be able to return to a warm comfortable cottage made it a lovely short break. Extremely quiet and peaceful setting.
Steven
The cottage, by and large was fine. The beams in the bedroom were much more of an issue than we thought they might be, and having the fridge at the opposite end of the cottage to the kitchen was a bit irritating. Our main complaint is that the description says it has an enclosed garden, which it clearly did not have. Our dog could have run off to the main road, or accessed a field full of sheep through a single fence with ease. This meant our dog had to be kept inside.
Stephen
Peaceful location with beautiful views of the Shropshire Hills. The area is close for shops and pubs. Cottage had everything needed for our stay. Was nice and warm too.
Very cosy and extremely clean property. Great location. Well equipped and spacious kitchen with plenty of cutlery and utensils. Sky box with smart TV ideal for winter nights. Well laid out, en suite in master bedroom, lovely feature. Kate was friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble.
Veronica
The cottage was more spacious than expected, with a wellequipped kitchen and bathrooms. It was nicely decorated and very warm and comfortable, which was welcome in a wet November. As we took our dog, it was particularly useful to be able to use the cloakroom as a tack room to clean him off after muddy walks. The washing machine also saw plenty of use for cleaning his towels. We wanted a quiet location, away from fireworks, and Broughton Stables fitted the bill. We had a very pleasant stay and can recommend this cottage.
A lovely cosy cottage which was warm and very clean. The beds are super comfy as is the sofa. The rural location means its lovely and quiet. You do need to drive to get anywhere, but its easy to do so. It would better if the kitchen had essentials like tea, coffee, salt, pepper, clingfilm etc
Wonderfully comfortable, ideal for our reading retreat. Great facilities, everything we needed, and appreciated fast reply to query we had. Many thanks
Excellent cottage, warm, comfortable and cozy. Beautiful old beams and original features. Large garden which our dog loved. Located on a quite farm and surrounded by lovely views and animals. The large on suite bath is very relaxing after a day's hiking in the local forest. The owner is lovely and their if you need anything, we are already looking at dates for our next stay.
Jonathan
We really enjoyed our stay at Broughton Stables & would highly recommend to anyone staying in the Shropshire Hills. Very peaceful setting & a great base surrounded by nature & animals.
Broughton Cottage is clean, comfortable and characterful with quirky charm, however I was disappointed on arrival by the lack of basics provided by every other self catering cottage Ive been too for over a decade. No welcome pack or toiletries other than soap and loo roll so make sure you bring everything with you. There wasnt an information pack or guest book and despite the sky box most channels, ie BBC 1 etc and Sky were unavailable.
Terence
Having the shower room downstairs is not very convenient. This would be an ideal place for a family holiday as it is very safe and there are lots of animals.
Great week at Broughton stables accompanied with beautiful weather, the stables are in a lovely quiet location surrounded by beautiful scenery alongside a working farm, their are two good sized bedrooms with the master having ensuite bathroom with bath but no shower, the shower is downstairs in the entrance hall the this being the second bathroom. The lounge is average size and had a open plan kitchen, off the lounge is the entrance hallway to the stairs and utility room with washing machine and fridge freezer. Broughton Stables is very quirky with all the original beams that brings character to the cottage. We enjoyed our week and would definitely return as Bishops Castle is one very beautiful town that is on the Shropshire Way with mile of beautiful scenery. Thank you for our lovely stay.
We had a wonderful week at this property. The owner was very friendly and most helpful. We would not hesitate to return
A lovely, cosy and charming converted barn on a working farm in beautiful countryside and a friendly welcome from the owner who lives next door. It could be improved if it had some local guidebooksmaps, a visitors book the comments that previous guests make regarding places to go are always helpful, and maybe a few books and games for those rainy days but it was a lovely place to stay and suited us well.
Melanie
It was generally clean and comfortable although there was a bit of an unpleasant drain smell. It would have been nice to have a few basics like salt, black pepper, cooking oil, tin foil and something more than a thin cloth for washing up. The oven needs a really good clean, especially the grill tray grid which was black with baked on grease ok on a bbq where it's going to get burnt off but not in an oven. There were no leaflets or information of things to do in the area and no guest book which is also good for getting up to date tips on what's good to do. The owner did direct us to the local dog friendly restaurant which was helpful.
Cottage is perfectly positioned for travel to all local villages and shops n ... Cottage is perfectly positioned for travel to all local villages and shops n pubs , great size rooms , beds very comfortable, the beams are fantastic, kitchen and dining areas are good , en suit bathroom beautiful, great shower downstairs
Annabel
We had a lovely stay at the property and had a wonderful time exploring the footpaths in the area.
George
Lovely cottage in isolated location, fantastic weather for time of year. Only small comment, could do with a few more oven dishes. Otherwise can recommend for a away from crowds holiday.
Lovely accommodation. ....looking forward to returning sometime
Terence
