The Ferns Reviews

Shirley
The property was in good condition and clean. The problem we had was when we arrived, as the heating was too low. It should have been at a reasonable temperature, at least 19 degrees. There was a member in our group with a health condition, and the low heating caused issues. It took all night and the next day before the temperature reached a good standard. The heating should be on at arrival, especially in the winter months. We were very disappointed as we have never had a problem with Sykes Cottages. We would not stay at The Ferns again.
Michelle
The property is in a good position for a short walk into the centre of Ludlow. The property is well presented and appointed for your stay, the only thing that we found a slight issue with was that the stairs are extremely steep. The log burner is a great addition to the property making it feel cosy. We would use this property again.
Our only downer on the house would be the shower, and shower curtain, otherwise the property was excellent
Michael
The Ferns is a lovely cottage in an ideal location for a visit to Ludlow. lots of interesting period features combined with modern comforts. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend The Ferns to anyone thinking of visiting Ludlow or wanting a base to explore Shropshire and Herefordshire. Jo and Pete were also very understanding when I had an accident and damaged their shower rail, which was most appreciated.
We had a brilliant few days helped by good weather! at The Ferns. The house is very comfortable and the garden very secure. Perfectly placed for a short walk into Ludlow or a drive to other villages. The owners were very helpful when we realised a charger had been left behind! We are looking to rebook ASAP
Jennifer
The Cottage was very comfortable, kitchen was a good size and well equipped. Great garden in a lovely spot surrounded by trees and was very convenient for the Town. We would stay there again.
All excellent
Excellent facilities with comfortable sofas and beds. The garden was a delight and the walk into Ludlow a reasonable distance. The only downside for older people was the steep stairs and shallow step from the bedrooms.
The cottage was very clean and tidy the garden was peaceful and relaxing with sun most of the day. Beds were comfy and my wife and I had 4 good nights sleep, the area was very quiet. Location of the house is about 10 minutes walk to town reasonably flat. Ludlow it's self is a quaint little town with lots of pubs and places to eat recommend THE CORNER HOUSE for breakfast and other meals, overall we enjoyed our stay at THE FERNS immensely and would recommend to friends and family or anyone looking to stay in Ludlow.
A lovely stay at the Ferns. Nice and spacious for a family holiday, with a great garden. Had everything thing we needed, no issue with parking and only a short walk into town. Would stay again.
Carolyn
The owners have obviously put a lot of effort into restoring the property. It is now comfortably furnished with attention to detail in sourcing furniture from the Victorian era of the cottage with the added bonus of a large modern kitchen. The cottage is in a quiet part of town and we found there was so much to see and do both in Ludlow and the surrounding area.
Hilary
A delightful period cottage but with all the modern facilities to make for a lovely comfortable stay .
Ferns was a Lovely easy place to stay, so comfortable and homely. The garden gave us relaxation and our dog plenty of play time. The house was a well presented and clean holiday home. Ludlow was a walk away, beautiful historic town.
Judith
We enjoyed our stay here as the location in Ludlow was excellent, and the garden is nice. We thought the property was a little shabby for the amount we paid! The driveway is only suitable for a very small car, my Ford Focus is approx a Metre to long to park on it, but you can use the garage.
Beautifully maintained house, very clean, comfortable beds. Close to the town, quiet area. Highly recommended
Perfectly located property for easy flat access to Ludlow town centre. Plenty of room to park the car directly outside the property. Fantastic large enclosed garden ideal for dogs and children to play safely. Only a couple of small issues, the bed frame in the main bedroom is a little noisy would benefit from the brackets being tightened and the bedrooms facing the garden could do with black out liners on the curtains. Overall this property is ideal for a stay in Ludlow with easy access to the A49 to explore further afield.
Jonathan
Very nice property, very good stay. Great garden for the dog, it was big and secure which was great.
A well appointed property in an ideal location. Well looked after and with all the facilities we could have wanted. The huge garden was a great bonus especially during some beautiful weather.
Anthony
The Ferns is well situated within walking distance of Ludlow Town centre and has an extensive garden. It has been sympathetically renovated in a traditional style with the added bonus of modern amenities. However, the listed 'off street parking' is too small for anything other than a Smart car or micromini, this should be more explicit. Also, whilst there is a lovely wood burner with a fire made up ready, thanks there are no fire dogstools poker etc..
Had a really lovely stay, the cottage was cosy and had been done really nicely. Comfy beds and plenty of space. Garden is quite big just a shame we couldn't enjoy it properly due to the constant rain! Can imagine it'll be so nice sitting out there in the summer. Driveway is too small for a normal sized car but we just parked across the gate which was fine.
Tracey
An ideal location to explore Ludlow and Shropshire. Easy to walk into Ludlow itself to enjoy the facilities there. The property was clean and tidy when we arrived. All the bedrooms were freshly made up. A small welcome 'hamper' of essential groceries would have been appreciated. The property was cold we went at the end of February so the heating could have been turned up on arrival day from the 5C to help warm it through for us. The wood burner was a lovely addition however fireproof gloves, a poker and tongs would have been helpful. And a washing machine would have been nice only because of the wintery weather when we visited.
Stephen
The only criticism is the parking, the brief states off road parking, but only a very small car could be accommodated. overall, lovely house and gardens in close proximity to Ludlow town centre
Really enjoyed our stay . Cottage has been refurbished well and liked the fact many original features have been kept such as fireplaces, tiles and lime walls . Modern well equipped kitchen . The only thing my husband who is 6ft 2 would have liked is a larger bed , but we still slept very well . Great location 10 mins walk to visit relatives and into town centre .
Anthony
We had a super few days at The Ferns. Would recommend. Great location for walking into Ludlow. Great enclosed garden for our dog too.
Comfortable, wellappointed and within easy strolling distance of the centre of Ludlow. It's also spacious and light with everything you need thoughtfully provided for a hasslefree stay. Three comfy beds, a modern kitchen and a classy woodturner complete a 'cottage' that makes an ideal base for Ludlow and the surrounding countryside. We would happily stay again.
The property is in need of some TLC or in the case of The Ferns it remains in the process of a major refurbishment. The shower is not great and we had to get the owner to call in a plumber as the bath was leaking down into the kitchen below and the back garden needs tidying up.
Roxanne
We had a great stay in Ludlow. We have for many year looked for a nice cottage to rent here as we have family who live close by and this one ticked all of the boxes. Small improvements would be have access to a washing machine if staying with children, more than one tea towel and a little welcome milk in the fridge for a cuppa after a long drive. Otherwise it was spot on and we will definitely book again as we regularly visit Ludlow.
Catherine
We had a lovely family short break in Ludlow although the weather was against us. The property is actually even nicer than it appears on the photos. It was clean and comfortable and had character. The large secure walled garden was great for our dog and the kids to run around in. We had everything we needed and its only a short walk from town. The stairs really are very steep so would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems or very young kids however we found it was quite easy to keep doors shut to block access. The off road parking space is small and only just fitted our estate car. Parking on the road is very tight. There is lots of good walking locally. Our dog had a great time running around at Mortimer Forest. To push it to 5 star it would be nice to have some local products as a welcome gift, given Ludlow is known as a foodie town, and for a longer family stay the ability to wash and dry clothes. It also seems a shame not to make more of the garden as it is such a lovely space but currently doesnt really have any planting.
Suzanne
Great location and overall a nice place to stay but we felt the accommodation could do with an update especially considering the price charged. The kitchen is modern and wellstocked, the garden is enclosed and mainly grass so it was great for our two toddlers and dog to play in. However, wouldnt say this is a great place for families with young children though because of the steep staircase. The addition of a stair gate would help make this more family friendly. We felt that upstairs could do with an update. Theres only one toilet in the house and the flush was a bit temperamental. Ive given 3 stars for comfort as despite other reviews stating theyre comfortable, we found the beds were on the short side! I highly recommend The Mill on the Green for breakfast and a great spot for paddling in the river.
Sharon
The property is in a great location just a 10 minute stroll into the centre of Ludlow. Lovely house with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Comfortable beds and big enclosed garden. The weather was glorious so we took advantage of the garden as did Barney our terrier. Would highly recommend as a base to explore Ludlow and surrounding area.
This is a lovely house which is only a short stroll from the centre of Ludlow. The house is immaculate and well equipped. Would definitely recommend it.
