The Wheelhouse at Dudgeley Mill Reviews

Compact cosy cottage attached to owners home down a short track lined with daffodils. Rural location with a lovely meadow to exercise the dog. Lovely geodome in the garden. Basic cottage, good base, plenty to do. Lovely cake awaiting us on arrival Ok train line behind but didn't really notice it

Valerie
This was our third stay at The Wheelhouse and certainly won't be our last. Had everything we needed for the two of us and our dog. For us the location is perfect for visiting places in the area. A warm welcome from Carole and a delicious cake we will be back soon!
We had a wonderful stay here. The cottage was clean and cosy and exactly as described. Our host was friendly, greeting us shortly after our arrival and making sure we had everything we needed. There was milk in the fridge as well as tea and coffee and a home made cake which was delicious and very welcome! We took our spaniel who was also warmly welcomed. Our host was very knowledgeable about the local area and gave us some good tips regarding places to walk and to eat. Everything worked the shower was good and plenty of hot water, the bed was comfy and there was a smart tv with Netflix etc. The local pub was very nice and there is a well equipped coop in Church Stretton 5 mins drive away.
A lovely little mill wheel house conversion. Very clean and with everything you would need for a break. Good wifi at 60 Mbps download. Yes, it's near the railway, but it's a branch line with only a few short trains passing by every hour.
There was a small maintenance problem when we arrived which was resolved without fuss by our host. Overall the accommodation was well equipped and comfortable a great base for exploring the local area. Best of all, our host was generous in her welcome nice cake thank you and helpful with advice on the area.
Gillian
The cottage is very nicely furnished and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the proximity to the railway which is a few metres behind. The trains are frequent starting at 5.27am and not only can they be heard but felt! Not very restful...
Christine
Carole was a wonderful host very helpful and informative. Dudgeley Mill is a ideal location for investigating the surrounding countryside and absorbing the local history. Thank you for the delicious homemade cake and your girls for the free range eggs.
I loved my time in the Wheelhouse,it is the ideal place for me. The location is brilliant ,being secluded but close to everything that you would seek in Shropshire. Carol is a wonderful hostess, the cake and fresh eggs she provided were delicious and she is very well versed in knowledge of the area. I particularly enjoyed sitting outside in the evening sunshine with a glass of wine then moving into the dome when the evening cooled,it was really peaceful.Having an area to exercise my dog was also a big plus for me,hes a young cocker spaniel and he loved burning off energy in the paddock. All in all I had very enjoyable stay and would be happy to recommend the Wheelhouse, thank you Carol.
Alison
Lovely cottage, everything you need is available. Carol left us the freshest hens eggs and some lovely home made cakes . She also gave us lots of advice for local dog walks and routes around the area. Also she is only next door so any questions you can pop and ask! Our dog loved being there, the paddock was her favourite place, lots of new smells and mole hills! We walked to the Yew Tree in the village and the second day we walked to Church Stretton, the majority of the road has pavement but take care on the bends! In Church Stretton we recommend the Kings Arms for a pit stop and Saxtons Deli for delicious takeaway treats. Highly likely to come back and 100 recommended.
Andrew
The wheelhouse is charming small but perfectly formed. It is superbly equipped with everything I could possibly have needed from kitchen equipment to fresh flowers, cake, milk and eggs. There is ample, easy parking. Carol lives 30 yards away and was always available to answer any questions. I was there for four nights and had a terrific stay
Lovely week staying at The Wheelhouse. Beautiful countryside with walks from the doorstep. House met all my needs, well equipped, comfortable and cosy. Carol made me very welcome, thank you for your hospitality
The grill didnt appear to work, but there were enough other ways to cook our food. This didnt detract us from having a lovely stay, the home made cake, fruit & eggs was a lovely touch.
Property is owned by a lovely lady who goes out of her way to help with any queries. She also left a cake for us and some eggs from her chickens on our arrival. Would definitely go back again.
Christine
We had a lovely short stay in this lovely quaint cottage. It was well equipped we had everything we needed. Carole was an amazing host she made an amazing cake & left us some milk so we could have a brew when we arrived. There is a train line behind but it didn't bother us.
This was a lovely holiday, for people like us, who don't expect luxury accommodation in such a rural setting. The owner has provided everything necessary in the premises for a short break away & we found nothing lacking. We will keep in touch with the owner as we shared many personal interests & found her quite fascinating. The history of the farmhouse & its renovations is fabulous. What an amazing woman!
Valerie
A brilliant second stay at the Wheelhouse. Such a warm welcome from Carole and lovely cake ! We will definitely be returning as soon as we can. An ideal place to stay for a relaxing holiday, we can really recommend it!
Absolutely loved this place so quiet and peaceful apart from the trains passing by but as a railway enthusiast this was a huge bonus to me. Carole was a lovely host and her chickens eggs and home baked cake were amazing. My little Yorkshire terrier loved the fields all around and the long walks in the Shropshire hills. Easy walk to All Stretton and Church Stretton and the Yew tree pub in All Stretton is highly recommended. Will definitely be going back again.
Michael
A thoroughly enjoyable holiday Everything we could wish for!
Muriel
We had a lovely week at the wheelhouse. Carol was a perfect host. We really enjoyed the cake and fresh eggs that Carol left. The local information Carole gave us was very useful. We will defiantly be returning. The quaint old cottage was perfect for us.

We spent three nights here. This cottage is small, but beautifully decorated, very well equipped and lots of pleasant things for guests i.e.cake. The owner, Carol, is lovely, surroundings are quiet but lovely, the bed is very comfy, the TV and wifi is great, shower is powerful . There is also a large, wellkept field nearby where you can let your presumably well behaved dog off the leash. We will definitely go back. The only thing to be aware of is that there is actually a wardrobe in the bathroom, with a bar and coathangers. If you hang your clothes on the hooks on the door of the wardrobe then you may not notice that it is actually a large wardrobe door that you can put your clothes into.
A beautifully maintained property, ideally situated to explore the area. The area just beyond the front door was ideal for removing wet and muddy clothes and boots, before entering the cosy lounge. The owner was more than helpful and allowed unto use her paddock to exercise our dog.
Wonderful little property, attached to an ancient watermill. Lovely host who welcomed us with homemade cake and eggs from her own chickens, plus 6 more to take home. Would highly recommend.
Jessica
Very happy with our experience, made to feel welcome from the start with all facilities and reasonable amenities well maintained and well stocked.
Debbie
Perfect location for exploring the local area and very quiet. Carding Mill Valley is only a short drive. The use of the paddock for exercising dogs is perfect. Kitchen is well equipped and the frying pan was excellent!! The Internet can be slow and drop out but this was stated in the information before booking. The TV has a built in dvd player so a good option would be to take dvds. The host is very friendly and left eggs from her hens and a lovely home made cake. The only issue was the the pillows. The were old and stained with no protectors on.
This quirky very rural cottage is well appointed and generously hosted. Well situated to access the many local sites, it suits those who seek peace and quiet but has easy access to local facilities.
The property is very old, and with small windows tended to be dark inside, so we had to have lights on most of the time. The fridge is in the utility room rather than the kitchen because of space constraints, a slight inconvenience rather than a problem. Carole, the owner, is very friendly and helpful and provided us with eggs, milk, tea, coffee, fruit and a delicious homemade cake, as well as interesting background information about the property
Not enough info given on how everything worked in the cottage. ..eg how to get the hot water on and the hoover wasnt much good was held together with parcel tape and wasnt a hoover that you would have in a cottage to do the job of doing the whole cottage with..i ended up on the carpet trying to make it do ....the owner Carole was very nice and had put the basic bits in to come into plus a cake etc that was very nice...a lovely area with lots of walks...
A very comfortable stay in a lovely area.
A very comfy cottage which suited our needs. We had a warm welcome from the owner and found a delicious home made cake and some eggs from her hens. Our dog enjoyed exploring the owner's fenced paddock. Good base for exploring the local area and we will hopefully be coming back again.
Anthony
Loved our stay at the wheelhouse, carole has thought of absolutely everything you might need even down to a toothbrush should you have forgotten yours. Milk and bottled water in fridge, flowers fruit and easter eggs on the table and a home made lemon & walnut cake in the kitchen along with doz eggs from her girls...fantastic Walking the hills direct from the door with the yew tree pub mile away serving good food and beers . Carole lives next door at the mill ,lovely lady who even showed us around her own home to see the mill workings Couldn't fault it,will definitely be back
A lovely break. Carole left a delicious cake and eggs from her chickens. She is a Fascinating person to talk to, and it was interesting seeing the original mill workings and hearing about the old mill. Despite the cold weather the annex was snug and cosy, and having a large utility area to store boots and dry off the dog was a bonus.
Wonderful, rural location and a very helpful owner. Delicious homemade cake and a few essentials were muchappreciated. Not luxurious by any means, but very much suited our needs and our budget. Great for walkers lots of beautiful routes from the doorstep and not far from a friendly pub with very good beer and food.
A very nice cottage located close to All Stretton. Very well situated for walkers. A lovely home baked cake and a few extras were waiting for us to enjoy our Christmas break.
What can I say but this is in a perfect location to explore the area. Carole was amazing there if you had any questions on the area but other than that you had your own privacy would definitely recommend.
We had a marvellous week at The Wheelhouse. It's a lovely cosy cottage, well equipped and very comfortable. The host Carole lives on the premises and she is very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. The kitchen is quite small but the porch at the front is kitted out as a utility room and is very convenient for wet coats and muddy boots not that we had that problem, we were lucky with the weather. Some people have commented on train noise. It's true that the railway line runs very close to the cottage but we were soon pretty oblivious to the trains going past. The cottage very well placed for exploring the Shropshire Hills and we simply put our walking boots on and walked out of the cottage for most of our stay, Caer Caradog in one direction and the Long Mynd in the other. One day we got the car out and went to Stipperstones and on another day we caught the local bus to Shrewsbury. If you fancy this cottage, please bear in mind it is very rural. There is mud, there are spiders and bats and birds, but for us, that's part of the charm. Thoroughly recommended for a get away from it all holiday.
Valerie
Living in the country ourselves we really appreciated the rural nature of the cottage location. Carole is welcoming, so interesting to talk to with useful local knowledge and very respectful of your privacy. Cottage small and cosy is perfect for a couple wanting to kick off their boots and relax, after trekking all day in the hills. Being able to walk from the door in all directions and leave the car behind was a real plus. Delicious home made cake and eggs a very nice touch. Thank you Carole.
We had a really lovely stay here & Carol was so hospitable & loved the chats . We had cake, fresh eggs ,fruit ,milk, flowers & water . The bed so so cosy too . There is a railway line directly behind but it did not bother us really quite busy too . Its exactly as it says . There is so much to do in the area & walking from the door . The Long Mynd is stunning & one of the most scenic drives either way .Carding Mill Valley , Much Wenlock ,Clun, & Stokesay Castle was beautiful. An area we love & hope to return too . Thanks Carol .
